32% Pay Hike for West Bengal Government Employees on Fift Pay Commission's recommendation

On 25th February Shri Asim Dasgupta, the finance minister of West Bengal announced the acceptance of the recommendation of the Fifth Pay Commission. He declared there will be an average pay hike of 32% in salary of State Government employees. Ten lakh employees and three lakh pensioners will be benefited and Government has to bear about 5500 crore additional burden to implement the fifth pay commission’s recommendation. Employees will get revised salary from 1st April 2009 with retrospective effect from 1st April 2008. The arrears for the period will be paid in three installments and arrears for pensioners will be paid in eight equal installments. In new scales HRA will be 15% as earlier and DA will be 16% with medical allowance for Rs.300/- per month. Let us look at the new revised pay scales of West Bengal State Government employees:
